According to court documents associated with this case, the five females worked at a produce growing and packing operation. During the course of their employment, they were reportedly subjected to explicit and egregious acts of sexual harassment at the hands of one male supervisor and two sons of the company’s owner.

Some of the various acts of sexual harassment included (but were not limited to) the men:

  • Regularly groping multiple female workers
  • Propositioning female workers for sexual favors
  • Threatening these workers with termination if they did not submit to the sexual advances
  • Trying to rape and, in some cases, raping female workers.

The five female plaintiffs have been fired by the company for not submitting to the harassment.

While the verdict in this case may be as noteworthy as the egregious and overt nature of the sexual harassment that it involved, this case is also remarkable in that it brought justice to a sector of workers who are particularly vulnerable to employers’ illegal acts due to fear of losing their jobs and/or being removed from the U.S.
